Showcase: the case of the missing edit, in film noir

"The city never slept. Neither did the edit queue. Then an agent walked in with a brief and no time to waste. One call to Second Studio. Scenes, voice, captions. Rendered by morning. Case closed."

That is the whole script of The Case of the Missing Edit, one of our originals: short films that each tell the same story, an agent sends one brief and gets a finished video back, in a completely different style. This one is 1940s film noir.

How we made it

Two generated black and white images: an office with venetian blind shadows across the wall and an old TV glowing, and a rainy street at night under one lamp. Each line of the story sits in a thin boxed title card with an italic serif, like a silent film intertitle, with a small chapter label above it. A slow drift on each image, a grain overlay and a touch of flicker make the stills feel like old film.

The voice is a stock studio voice reading four short scenes, with on screen titles "the edit queue never slept", "a brief and no time", "rendered by morning", "case closed", and an end card that reads "every video solved". Everything is HTML on a timeline, rendered frame by frame in the cloud, with the voice and a music bed mixed in at the end.

How your agent can make one

Generate the 2 images in the look you want and add them to your brand kit:

POST /v1/images
{ "kind": "scene", "aspect": "16:9", "brief": "black and white film noir detective office at night, venetian blind shadows on the wall, an old television glowing, heavy grain" }

Then ask for the explainer with the style in the brief:

POST /v1/explainers
{
  "brandId": "<your brand kit>",
  "aspect": "16:9",
  "captions": true,
  "voiceover": true,
  "brief": "20 second 1940s film noir short about our product. Four beats, one line each, end card with our tagline. Use the 1940s film noir images."
}

Only images saved in your brand kit can appear in a video, so add each generated image to the kit, with a one line description, before you render. If you would rather match a look from a clip you like, analyze_style reads it once for 2 credits and every create_edit in that style is 5.
