A homepage explainer for a SaaS product, from one brief
The explainer on our own homepage came out of Second Studio from five sentences and our brand kit. I get asked how that works for other products, so here is the same flow written for a generic SaaS company. The product and copy below are placeholders, not a customer.
Start with a brand kit
A brand kit is the part you do once. It holds your name, a one line description, tone, colors, font, logo and a few product images with descriptions. If you have a few reference boards or screenshots, POST /v1/brands/analyze suggests colors, type and tone for 1 credit. Saving the kit is free.
POST /v1/brands
{
"name": "Example Analytics",
"description": "Product analytics for B2B teams: ask questions in plain language, get answers without SQL.",
"tone": "clear, calm, a little dry",
"colors": { "background": "#0F1720", "text": "#EAF0F6", "accent": "#3BA1FF" },
"font": "Inter",
"images": [{ "assetId": "<upload>", "description": "The question box with an answer chart" }]
}
Write a brief like you would for a person
The brief is the whole creative input, so I keep it concrete: who it is for, the problem in their words, three points, and the call to action. I avoid numbers I cannot back up, because the script will use whatever the brief gives it.
POST /v1/scripts
{
"brandId": "<kit>",
"brief": "60 second explainer for our homepage. Audience: heads of product at mid sized SaaS companies. Pain: simple questions wait days for an analyst. Points: connect in an afternoon, ask in plain language, share the chart. CTA: start a trial at example.com.",
"duration": 60,
"aspect": "16:9"
}
You get scenes back: a title, a steps scene, image scenes that use your product shots, and a call to action, each with narration. When we made ours, I rewrote two lines because the draft explained the API before it explained why anyone should care. That edit took a minute and cost nothing.
Render once you like the words
POST /v1/explainers
{ "brandId": "<kit>", "script": { "...": "the edited script" }, "aspect": "16:9", "captions": true }
The render is deterministic for a given script, so when your pricing or a feature name changes you edit that line and render again rather than starting over.
Cost
A script is 2 credits and a render up to a minute is 12, so 14 credits for the first version. A 9:16 version for social from the same script is another 12. Each extra started minute is 6.
